Summary

What do you get if you cross The Matrix with the swordplay of Kill Bill and turn the resulting creation into a videogame? A badass simulator, that's what. Or, as developer Mixed Realms would prefer you to call it, Sairento VR.

The game starts into the Tokyo of the near future. Around you, a train station has just exploded and a radio link informs you there have been similar attacks across the city. It's time to stop playing at being a civilian and just be honest about the fact that you're an awesome ninja. What follows is a furious action RPG packed with sword play, gun fighting and airborne spectacle.

It's not difficult to make a case for hacking, slashing and shooting with PlayStation Move controllers and a VR headset, but the high jumping, wall-running and floor sliding could have been trouble in virtual reality. Fortunately, movement is handled by a simple jump mechanism that works a lot like the teleport function in other VR games. While you're leaping, time slows down. That means that you'll have plenty of opportunities to dish out slow motion pain, too!

Enemies will drop plenty of loot when you kill them off. While you're in combat you'll mostly be grateful for the health and the ammo, but in between frantic bouts of action you'll have the chance to progress your character by using pickups to enhance your gear. There are all sorts of weapons on offer, too, and while you can't take them all into battle at once the four loadout slots give you plenty of flexibility.

The future's bright... red.
