Summary

A tie-in to a popular brand of colouring in tools doesn't exactly sound like the basis for a treat for under-served Tony Hawk Pro Skater fans, but here we are. Crayola Scoot is a surprisingly technical take on skating game mechanics that offers up plenty of vibrant fun for kids and more meat for their parents than they're likely to admit to their mates.

You play as a boy or girl hoping to take the Colour Cup from the reigning scooter Legends in your home city. The path to glory will take you through a range of events in 12 locations spread over three different worlds, and by the time you're done with it said path is going to look like a very messy rainbow.

Where Crayola Scoot does something a bit different is in taking a cue from the likes of De Blob or Splatoon and bringing a whole mess of paint into the mix. As you shred your environments, pulling off tricks, grinding, boosting and (if you're feeling fiendish) activating traps you can use special techniques and activate special points to create explosions of colour across the environment. This mechanic is made use of in modes like Colour Frenzy, which has you competing with other characters to cover the area with your colours in a fast-paced battle that can be played either solo or in teams.

There are a few basic moves to master, but it's chaining them together into combos that will really put you ahead. While easy mode makes this accessible to everyone, more seasoned gamers will find hard mode surprisingly challenging.

You can customise your rider, and as you progress you'll be able to improve them as you become a real challenger for the championship.

Tony Hawk might be getting on a bit, but Crayola Scoot is ready to get a younger generation than ever hooked on pulling off amazing tricks and grinds!
