Summary

"Left 4 Dead with aliens" is a pretty fair place to start when describing Earthfall.

Humanity is on its knees following a brutal alien invasion and an electromagnetic pulse that has crippled most of our technology. You enter this doomsday scenario in the USA's Pacific Northwest, attempting to simply get by with a small handful of other survivors.

Across multiple campaigns you'll team up with three other players to fight your way to the next objective. If you rather play solo that's all good, too - you'll be supported by AI teammates that will provide cover for you as you complete your objectives.

Developer Holospark isn't shy about comparisons to Left 4 Dead - it is a modern classic, after all - but once you get past the fact that it's a four-player post-apocalyptic survival horror/action game, there are notable differences. For one, the emphasis in Earthfall is squarely on shoot-'em-up mechanics rather than melee combat. Enemies ranging from massive drone armies to towering beasts spitting plasma will come at you, but if they get in close you're probably in big trouble.

More crucially, strategy is augmented by well placed 3D printers. You can craft items ranging from AK-47s to fences and automated turrets, and you'd better believe that the choices you make will affect how the game plays out.

If you're still unsure, let us remind you - "Left 4 Dead with aliens"!
