Summary

There ain't no party like a Mario Party! Mario is synonymous with the party game genre and the 3DS is in on the action with Island Party. In it, up to four human or game-controlled characters make their way around different island areas, racking up points as they try to outperform and sabotage each other.

As with any mini-game collection, the meat is in the challenges themselves. Island Tours has a bevvy of them with 80+ to go at making use of the 3DS's numerous control features. Players might take a pop at circle pad and motion-controlled archery in Buzz a Fuzzy, test their memory in Match Faker or try their hand at gliding across ice in No Traction Action!

The 3DS's download play feature means that Island Party offers as full a multiplayer mode as a handheld game can offer. Up to three other 3DS owners can download the full game from one cartridge, means there's the option of four way multiplayer throughout. After a few minutes spent downloading the game, they're free to play so long as the host (who controls all the settings) stays connected.

There can't be someone around for multiplayer every time you pick up your 3DS, however, and Mario Party: Island Tour has you covered for that, too. In Bowser's Tower, players make their way up a tower one level at a time, completing a mini-game on each. Every fifth level, the player must fight a boss battle, which is itself a mini-game. It's all about gaming your way to the top!
