Summary

We don't know why it's taken so long, but the Wii can finally fulfil its motion-sensing destiny and be host to a karate game. All Star Karate is quite a departure from your usual sporting games, in that it doesn't take itself too seriously. Just one look at the cartoony graphics and ridiculous superhero-style outfits will tell you that this is a good place to just have some fun.

The game uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk (or two Wii Remotes - one in each hand) to register your movement and replicate different karate moves on screen. You can also use the Wii Motion Plus for greater accuracy in your surroundings. Kick and punch like there's no tomorrow to take down a villainous ninja that threatens your dojo (and perhaps, the world).

Your Sensei will teach you all the moves you need before going off on your quest, and as you progress new challenges and rewards will unlock. The prizes you really want are the seven different coloured belts – work your way up to a black belt and prove your almighty strength.

The comedy in the game does more than entertain; throughout All Star Karate players are taught karate terminology and history so that young white belts can learn more about the sport. And why not join them with a multiplayer sparring match too?
