Summary
Ever imagined yourself steeped in the tension of being up on the mound, lazily meeting a pitcher's eye and knowing that the entire game rides on what you do next with your bat? While previous baseball sims have, to a degree, offered baseball fans the chance to relive that, few have gone as far as The BIGS to drive home that sense of drama.
Rather than going for the realism of a sim, 2K Sports has chosen to go for more of an arcade-style game, bringing out the feel of a match with an intuitive game play system. Players will spend matches performing gravity defying wall grabs, massive diving plays and sprinting for epic homeruns.
New power up mechanics add to the arcade feel. With Turbo Play, players will notch up, well, turbo in five allocated slots, increasing the power they can add to each arcing swing or air-scorching pitch. Ultimately, players will want to bring on the Big Heat, a power up that will put a pitch straight out of the park or straight into the catcher's mitt.
The game holds an MLB license, so all your favourites are in there in finely rendered detail. Similarly, stadiums are recreated, although you might find elements such as the glove at San Francisco's AT&T Park upscaled to mammoth proportions to really bring home the atmosphere.
