Summary

A year can make quite a bit of difference in video game land. Take 2005's GTR FIA GT Racing. It was by no means a bad looking game, with detailed cars models and plenty of track-side scenery, it would still look good come 2006. That is, of course, if it weren't for GTR 2, the latest outing of FIA GT racing.

Visually, GTR 2 looks significantly better than its predecessor. Where once was grey, flat looking tracks is now highly textured asphalt, which goes the same for the aprons, grass, sand - everything is more richly detailed. The lighting is also much more realistic, adding greater depth and texture to the environment.

Similarly, the number of cars and tracks has been significantly increased. Now featuring over 140 accurately modelled cars from a whole two FIA GT seasons, you can race on 34 tracks, including 19 of the world's most famous tracks - each one a faithful reproduction of the original.

As any car racing fan will know, no driving game is complete without accurate crash modelling, and GT 2 delivers. As with GTR, serious crashes result in heaps of flying wreckage, but GTR2's physics take things a step further. What may seem like a harmless bit of fender bending and a bit of scuffed paintwork could result in a twisted chassis, altering handling and potentially costing you the race.

For players new to driving simulations, new to the series is GTR 2's driving school. With lessons on cornering, braking and overtaking, everyone has the chance to learn how to race like a professional. For the racing experts, the game includes MOTEC race analysis, just like those used by real racing teams. Which ever level of racer you feel you are, the game provides novice, semi-pro and simulation levels of realism to match your skill.

With an Internet connection you can join the multi-player action, pitting you against other real people from around the world. For those racing alone, the game still provides a great challenge, with highly realistic artificially intelligent drivers that attempt to block, pass and, like human players, sometimes make mistakes.
