Summary

Nintendo has a good thing going with the Final Fantasy series, with its Crystal Chronicles spinoffs exploring unique new avenues in role playing gameplay and storytelling. The Crystal Bearers is set one thousand years after the original Crystal Chronicles game on the Nintendo Gamecube, focusing on a young mercenary called Layle.

Layle happens to be a crystal bearer, a magical yet feared being that has powers beyond that of the Lilty Tribe. Layle's been hired to escort the passenger airship, Alexis, but it suddenly comes under attack by monsters, and our hero comes face to face with an adversary who was once thought dead.

Just like the original Crystal Chronicles game, this entry takes a different approach to the role playing genre, with action-based gameplay involving 3D levels, exploration and puzzle solving. Battles are executed in real-time, and everything is wrapped up in an emotional audio score that helps colour the scenery around you.

Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to perform different actions, Layle can perform physical attacks as well as special magical assaults which use the power of the crystal that is imbued within him. Long-range fire waves, levitating your foes and grappling to ledges and structures are just a few of the actions achievable using motion control.
