A massively multiplayer online role playing game, the first Neocron invited players to come and live in a cyberpunk city of the future. Living in their own virtual apartment, players could undertake missions to earn credits. Set in the 28th century, the game was distinguished by a FPS style point of view, rather than the 3rd person views favoured by most MMORPGs. The game also was lauded for its rich graphics and atmosphere. It was developed by German company Reakktor, a company with a long history in games who more recently have turned their attentions exclusively to the new MMORPG genre.
Now Reakktor are releasing the sequel, Neocron 2: Beyond the Dome of York. Global pollution, excessive wars and a perforated atmosphere have turned the planet into an almost lifeless sphere of toxic mud. Radiation is everywhere and most animals have either gone extinct or have mutated into bizarre monstrous creatures. The remnants of mankind seek protection from the desolate, scorched world and gathered behind the protective walls of giant cities. These few mega cities became the last lights of hope, in the darkness of Earth′s final dusk. Using their patented Tekktonic engine, the game effectively doubles the size and general content of its predecessor, opening up a whole new city, the Dome of York. There is a new characters system, modified game play, as well as new skills, new items and new quests. The games graphical engine has been modified to look good on really high-end PCs using DirectX 9.
If you want in on the MMORPG scene but dont fancy the comparatively pedestrian worlds of Star Wars and Everquest, maybe Neocron 2 could be more your scene.
