Summary

The concept of the all-encompassing, genre-spanning adventure game is becoming extremely popular of late, with developers attempting to cram as much variety and diversity into their games in order to try and offer gamers something a little different. Sphinx is the latest title to do such a thing, offering the now common combination of exploration, platforming, action and combat, woven together by an involving storyline.

The game is set in an Egypt-inspired fictional universe, in which players embark on an epic quest to foil the evil plans of a nasty fellow called Set. You take control of the eponymous Sphinx or his comic sidekick, the Mummy, as you explore an assortment of new worlds, uncover dark secrets and interact with a large cast of diverse characters. Travelling about with the aid of magic portals, the task at hand is to uncover the stolen mystical crowns of Egypt, but it's certainly not going to be easy, and will require a great deal of wits and agility, as well as the use of a range of special abilities.

There are five huge worlds to discover, populated by a whopping 150 or so different characters. As you explore each of the environments, you acquire various different special abilities (of which there are more than 15 in total) that more often than not are required in order to progress, solve certain puzzles, or interact with your surroundings. As well as these abilities, you also get to rely on a multitude of cool weaponry, including the likes of a magic blade, capture beetles, possession spells, and a range of different darts.

Throughout the adventure you also stumble across an array of different mini games that add a bit more variety to the proceedings and nicely round off what is an above average adventure with plenty of hours worth of gameplay time on offer.
