Summary

If ever a classic TV series has made for ideal video game material then it has to be Scooby Doo. Exploration, mystery-solving, creepy mansions, ghosts, and, erm, massive sandwiches (?) - all perfect ingredients for a proverbial console feast. Mystery Mayhem offers all that and more, giving us the opportunity to step into Shaggy and Scoob's quivering boots as they reluctantly embark on yet another bout of adventuring with the rest of the crew.

The game's story sees the famous Mystery, Inc. summoned to Hambridge University Library by Velma's former school librarian in order to investigate the usual assortment of ghostly goings on. There the gang discovers an ancient book called the 'Tome of Doom' that is unleashing ghouls and ghosts, and soon become embroiled in a spooky mystery of quite ghostly proportions.

Mystery Mayhem features co-operative play between both Scooby and Shaggy, with you taking control of the two faint-hearted friends as they explore a wide array of environments, searching for clues. From the University Library, the search soon takes you to such haunts (geddit?) as the Milton Bros. Movie Studio, a Wild West Theme Park, an eerie Bayou, and the Sherman Tech Headquarters.

Obviously, along the way a host of scary spooks and grisly ghosts lie in wait to scare the pants off the two unwitting heroes. These must be dealt with by arming yourself with the aforementioned Tome of Doom, which has the power to trap and imprison ghosts (but what about bald men wearing masks?). Aside from the avoiding/capturing of ghoulish enemies, the main task at hand is to help out the other members of the gang by following clues left by the brainy Velma. Along the way you also get to partake in Shaggy and Scooby's favourite pastime of sandwich making, as you uncover hidden ingredients in order to unlock bonuses and mini games.

The game stays faithful to the original cartoon series and therefore provides its good share of amusement - its full of classic Scooby effects, story twists, and outrageous costumes, as well as the obligatory canned laughter, which accompanies a load of crap jokes. Fantastic!

Altogether now: MR. WILMSLOW???!!!

"And I would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for those meddling kids and that pesky dawg!"
