Summary

With its recently-acquired ESPN licence, and the non-trauma of a mid-development change of name, SEGA present ESPN NFL Football, formerly known as NFL 2K4, for PS2. The change of name, given SEGA's spiriting away of the ESPN brand from Konami, hasn't affected things much; SEGA always had a way with sports titles, and with the ESPN logo attached, it oozes kudos.

That fierce-looking fellow glaring at you from the cover of the game is Warren Sapp. He's the intimidating defensive tackle with Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and just one of hundreds of real-life players in amongst all the data in SEGA's ESPN NFL Football. The amount of research and detail that's gone into this game is admirable to say the least. Player likenesses, colourful uniforms and authentically recreated stadia - they're all here, along with well-synchronised commentary and crowd noise.

With an all-new play calling system and gameplay that can be scaled to both hardcore sports gamers and rookies alike, ESPN NFL Football provides a polished and fun experience for football fans everywhere. We bet that John Madden and Electronic Arts are quaking in their boots.
