Summary

A multi-million selling franchise with the help of market leader THQ, Hot Wheels games are among the most popular racers with younger audiences. There are now nearly a dozen Hot Wheels games in the video game series, and the latest and greatest release for 2003 is World Race for PlayStation 2.

Thrust into the Hot Wheels fantasy world once again, players are charged with partaking in a multitude of futuristic racing events with a plethora of 35th anniversary edition motors from the Hot Wheels range. Many of the game’s circuits are reminiscent of classic racers such F-Zero X, Extreme G and Rollcage, in which players are challenged to race at breakneck speeds up vertical walls and loops, looking for shortcuts in order to beat the opposition to the finish line.

The simple Hot Wheels play mechanic remains intact for World Race, making it easy to pick up. Simple gameplay, however, means the challenge from your fellow racers is much greater, and you’ll need to race extremely well to beat some of the game’s later races. A multi-player option in which gamers can race head-to-head gives World Race a great sense of longevity, and the visuals don’t suffer as a result either.

World Race is a great addition to the virtual Hot Wheels series, so start the car!
