Summary
Every year, the video games industry plays host to a number of summer sports games, but it's only in recent years that this trend has become more prolific. Beach volleyball, wakeboarding and surfing are all common ground now. Adding to this trend is Wanadoo's Pro Beach Soccer for GBA.
Beginning Pro Beach Soccer is very simple; there is a distinct lack of complex menus and options, which is a good thing. Once players have chosen a team, they're ready to go.
Breaking the mould of most other 2D soccer games, Pro Beach Soccer surprisingly avoids the birds eye view perspective in favour of side-on scrolling point of view. Game environments are pretty much as you would expect them to be - yellow and sandy. In this respect, Pro Beach Soccer does look a little bland, but some gorgeous oceanic backdrops and animated spectator crowds help offer a little variety and realism.
In terms of gameplay, Pro Beach Soccer offers a wide variety of acrobatic feats such as chips, slides, and flying volleys, and in some respects it does play quite differently to 'normal' soccer games.
But the strongest aspect of Pro Beach Soccer lies in the multi-player link-up option. With two GBA consoles, players can participate in tournaments and head-to-head matches, making for some terrific gameplay.
