Summary
For an actual sport to be banned in numerous countries because of its extreme violence and brutality is quite an achievement. Imagine Jean Claude Van Damme in Bloodsport and you're pretty close to the idea of what goes on in the ring in Ultimate Fighting Championship. A rare breed of boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and any other possible school of fighting you can think of, UFC delivers no-holds-barred fighting, with few rules and many injuries. Now, courtesy of Crave and Ubi Soft, players can now take part in some serious butt-kicking of their own, with the Gamecube release of UFC Throwdown.
Complete with the official license and 25 real UFC fighters, including current champ Tito Ortiz and newcomer BJ Penn, UFC Throwdown literally throws players straight into the action in the eight-sided ring and enters them into a fight for their lives. There really is very little else to divulge on this matter: Fight, fight, and fight some more. Oh, and don't get your head kicked in. Win the match and have another fight.
Career mode has a little more to offer. In this, players can build a new character from scratch. Beginning with the now commonplace aesthetic customisation (face, body, hair colour, clothes, etc.), the task is to then take the character into the ring and climb the rankings.
Alternative game modes, which include championships, multiplayer tournaments and a variety of weight class matches, make up the rest of the game. Aside from that, its all pretty much straight forward unsubstantiated violence.
