Summary

For fans of the classic 2D Metal Slug series, this is a proper treat. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the franchise, the original first version - Super Vehicle - is now available on Game Boy Advance.

The story, for the uninitiated, goes as follows. The special ops squad Peregrine Falcons - aka PF Squad - is known for demanding the best of its members in any situation to carry out the mission. A day in their corps does not go by without a vigorous regime of training.

The mission this time is a simulated battle drill for new recruits. The stage for this drill is a remote island in the South Pacific. Walter and Tyra, two recent recruits to the governmnent's PF Squad, must land on this island with only the minimum of provisions. Once they make it off the island, the drill will end successfully.

Naturally, Walter and Tyra have not been provided with any intelligence on the island's flora, fauna or geography, making it difficult to imagine what obstacles await them, and once they set foot on the island, there is no turning back. This may be just a drill, but one false step could be fatal. It's up to you as to whether the pair are able to weather the onslaught of ordeals and take their place among the elite, or suffer an ignominious defeat.

Walter plunges into the heart of the island, spurred on by the quickening throbbing of tension and excitement. Tyra follows, putting all of her senses to work while prudently pressing on. Just as the two disappear into the jungle, a sinister ship approaches. Little do the new recruits know, but their first drill is also going to be their first taste of combat.

You have to command the Metal Slug super vehicle to gain tactical advantage over the classic over-the-top boss characters, battling General Morden and his evil forces with a huge array of weapons as you rescue hostages and receive power-ups.
