Summary

Hamtaro? We wondered what it was all about too, until we discovered its Japanese origins. It’s a game based on a hugely popular TV series that only the Japanese could have dreamt up. Think of a Tamagotchi adventure and you’re on the right wavelength... ish.

Assuming the role furry rodent Hamtaro, you must help Boss gather the remaining Ham-Hams together at the Clubhouse. You’ll be able to use them to interact with other Ham-Hams and can learn some 80 Ham-Chat words across six sprawling areas. You can collect Sunflower Seeds and purchase new clothes from other Ham-Hams in a mighty Ham-Ham adventure.

For those who haven’t guessed by now, Ham-Hams are in fact Hamsters.

Game Boy Color games have been thin on the ground since the arrival of Game Boy Advance, and the visual quality in Hamtaro doesn’t match those seen in GBA games, but don’t let that deter you. Pokemon was a phenomenon, Tamagotchi was a phenomenon and Hamtaro could well be another, given time.
