Everyone likes Scooby Doo: how could you possibly dislike him? And with the live action movie coming to a big screen near you, a Game Boy Advance tie-in is most welcome.
Like the movie, Scooby Doos handheld mystery centres around the bizarre wrongdoings at Spooky Island. As the loveable hound, you, together with Daphne, Fred, Velma and your best pal Shaggy, must thwart the plans of the unknown enemy.
The game itself takes the traditional scrolling isometric environments seen in games such as Marble Madness and updates them to the GBAs technical standards. Each location, complete with interactive objects and non-playable characters, looks gorgeous, albeit pre-rendered, and is filled to the brim with clues and puzzles.
This version of Scooby Doo, like most others, doesnt focus on combat. It tests its players wits and skills as a detective. Some puzzles, though mainly the early ones, are simple, while others can be somewhat more complex and take time to solve. There are instances in which you must disguise yourself to hide from spooky islands population of masked monsters, and in some cases, you must set traps for them. Well, how else are you going to foil their plans?
What can we say? Its Scooby Doo in his purest form. Good enough? We think so.
