Summary

Midas Interactive is well known for its budget re-releases of popular games you may well have forgotten about. The next batch of PC 'oldies but goodies' comes in a series of double packs, one of which is Hot Chix and Gear Sticks and Toyland Racing.

As the title may suggest to those old enough to remember the decade that taste forgot, Hot Chix and Gear Sticks is a 70's-based muscle car racing game. The game allows its players to take control of any of six Yank-tanks and race them around three large circuits, both forwards and in reverse. Interestingly all the racers are female and include delectable characters such as Daisy Lipsey and Sharon Sharalike. Hmmm, on PC, but not terribly PC, if you get my drift. And while not a simulator, Hot Chix does possess good gameplay physics and two racing modes including Time Trial and Championship. This is pure American racing at its best.

In contrast, Toyland Racing offers a simpler playing experience that is just as addictive. Concentrating solely on racing, players are able to challenge up to five other friends and participate in a split-screen, two-player option. Gameplay is fast-paced and the challenge is big, but well worth it. The visuals are simple, like the rest of the game, and include effective child-like designs.

Although a bizarre and unexpected combination of racing games, at least in theme, both games are thoroughly playable and equally challenging.
