Summary

Real-time strategy games have been known to cover a wide range of past events, but seldom do these games dabble in the future. The next release from JoWood, World War 3: Black Gold, does just that.

Black Gold is set in an unknown period in the future when the world is in the middle of a political crisis. A secret conference held by the Central Geological UN Commission has revealed that oil supplies will expire within eight to ten years. But the superpowers of the world are unwilling to convert their industries to compensate for such matters. Soon enough, the world begins to fall apart, and World War 3 is declared.

This RTS game, developed in full 3D, allows the player to experience future Earth in any way possible, thanks to a variety of well constructed cameras. The 3D terrain is fully customisable, given a few tractors here and there, and players are able to construct a wide range of buildings to occupy their given space. But there’s more to constructing a useful environment than assembling buildings. Road networks and tunnel systems are also essential.

Construction aside, the combat element of the game is where the heart of the gameplay lies. There are a variety of weapons, combat units and defence systems available, but not at your disposal. You must, as with any RTS game, use your resources wisely. Play strategically and efficiently and you shouldn't have too much of a problem progressing with this game.

Good luck!
