Summary

3DO, famous for their endless incarnations of Army Men and Might and Magic, are nevertheless always keen to explore new territory. GoDai: Elemental Force is the next product to emerge complete from the R&D studios of 3DO.

Interestingly, GoDai struggles to define itself purely as either a role-playing game or a game of combat. But that’s no bad thing, it just means the players get the best of both worlds.

The storyline of GoDai, although not really original, is intriguing nonetheless. It is said (in true RPG fashion) that all living things are a creation of Earth, Wind, Fire or Water. Our existence is simply a realm in which all is controlled by these forces. But anyone who seeks the base power of the four elements can potentially control all matter, no matter how simple or complex. And surprise, surprise, someone’s after ultimate domination and it’s up to the kind-hearted hero to save the world. That hero is you.

Most noticeably, GoDai features stealth-heavy gameplay in which you must avoid the eyes of certain beings, using your wits and cunning. But sometimes battle is inevitable, and so you must put your combat skills to the test. Players can fight hand-to-hand, with swords and with projectile weapons. And yes, players can also tackle nasty foes by means of traditional role-playing magic... the Elements.

So, we’re sure you will agree there is a healthy combination of gaming styles that will suit all ages. The visuals are lush thanks to Sony’s hardware, there are several modes of play and a fantastic multi-player option.

A great-looking title that's two games in one - bargain!
