Summary

One of the best videogames of all time, many would argue, is the classic Russian Puzzle game Tetris. Its simplicity is part of its addictive beauty, Tetris just screams ‘I am pure playability’. Think of Tetris like a jigsaw puzzle. Pieces slowly fall from the sky and you must rotate them and fit them together. When you complete a horizontal line, it disappears, scoring you points and making the game faster and therefore trickier. You can remove up to four lines at once, which is called a Tetris and Tetris score highly. Many Tetris players become obsessive, they see shapes falling when they close their eyes and see imaginary upside down L shapes floating down onto skyscrapers. The Next Tetris is essentially two games rolled into one, a Tetris update and the original Tetris game for the Dreamcast. Did we mention full on-line play?

Using the DC’s built in modem to access the Internet you will be able to play against other Tetris-obsessed players from around the world. Almost every Tetris player thinks that they’re the best, now we’ll actually to able to prove it. The Next Tetris improves on the original by offering new pieces called multi-minos. These blocks are made up of different coloured bricks that break up if they are not joined to the same colour. So effectively, for the first time you will be able to set-up high-scoring combination possibilities. Lines disappear, rows fall, new colours join up, it’s crazy but it just might work. The more points that you can score in one combination, the more damage you are going to do to your opponent like spinning their screen or restricting their view.

Ultimately, Tetris is a fantastically addictive game, it proves that gameplay is better than graphics and if you don’t already have a version or fancy the on-line aspect, The Next Tetris is for you.
