Summary

Finally making its way on to Nintendo 64, Resident Evil 2 prepares to scare the hell out of you. Previously only released on PlayStation and PC, this schlock horror is one of the best selling titles in recent history. Ready to be shocked? This is, Resident Evil, the second coming.

First and foremost, this 64-bit upgraded conversion arrives on Nintendo’s first 512-megabit cartridge. Developed by Capcom, RE2 is not as large as the cartridge would suggest, but there is still a lot of stuff crammed into the little silicon fella. The first and most noticeable improvement here are the visuals. While pre-rendered backdrops and FMV sequences remain the same, any 3D creations are of a much higher texture quality, as you would expect.

While visuals do make a difference, game play is what Capcom have concentrated on here, and it shows. There are two scenarios for both Claire and Leon, but the latter scenario will not be available until the first is complete. Each scenario is created such that both Leon and Claire get both sides of the story. RE’s storyline remains close to the mythology of the series, and follows on a couple of months after the first incident.

Never before has a game had the ability to provoke a physical reaction out of myself, but this is one game that can genuinely scare. You have been warned.
