Summary

Operation Wolf is a one player Shoot'Em Up by Taito and was originally a huge arcade hit in the 80's, before being ported to the various platforms of the era. You are a soldier behind enemy lines, who must capture six different bases that include communication setup, jungle, village, powder magazine, concentration camp, and airport. Along the way you must rescue hostages, children and nurses.

Gamers can use either a zapper or control pad in the NES version of Operation Wolf. To be successful in capturing the enemy bases, you must shoot the hell out of the scores of soldiers, tanks, helicopters, jeeps and boats that come at you. Your ammunition and grenades are limited, but can be replenished by shooting barrels, crates or even animals. Every time you are shot, your energy bar will decrease. However, energy boosts will appear randomly throughout the game.

When discussing the graphics of Operation Wolf, it must be remembered that the NES is only an 8-Bit machine. To be fair, the soldiers, helicopters and boats are depicted quite well, but when compared to the Atari ST version for example, they look basic to say the least. The playability of Operation Wolf is great and should provide even the most experienced gamers with a challenge. The music and sound effects are probably the worst aspect of the game, but that is a small factor, as they can always be turned off.
