Hewson

Founded by brothers Andrew and Gordon Hewson, Hewson Consultants was a small independent publisher founded in the 1980s. The brother's company had an advantage over other independents in that their father ran a cassette tape duplication company. As cassette was the storage medium of the era, this allowed Hewson to operate on a "just in time" basis, producing minimal volumes of games to satisfy demand and keeping costly stock to an absolute minimum.

The company fostered many of the 80's great developers, like Graftgold, and making stars of the individuals responsible such as Raf Cecco, Hugh Binns & John Phillips to name a handful.

Throughout its history the company published some to the most memorable and innovative games of the time, including Nebulus, Paradriod, Iridis Alpha and Uridium. Later the company started its own budget label, RackIt, under which the company published new and re-release classics games at the impulse-buy price of £1.99

Software Highlights from Credited Titles

Hewson's first work that SPOnG is aware of is the 1982 title, "Countries of the World" (Spectrum 48K).

The company has been involved titles released on the Amiga, ST, C64, Spectrum 48K, Sinclair Spectrum 128K, BBC/Electron, Amstrad CPC and Dragon 32.

The company's most recent involvement was on the 1994 release "Netherworld" (Amiga).
