Established in 1979 to develop and sell arcade machines, TOSE changed its approach in 1983, when the company took on the role of outsourced games development for home consoles. Since then, the company has worked on thousands of titles, for almost all of which the company goes uncredited.
In 1991 a US office was opened in Los Angeles, but closed just two years later amid the early 90s console crash. At the same time, the company established a Chinese subsidiary to fulfil demand for for further development staff. In 2003 the company re-established a US office, TOSE Software USA, Inc., to handle US and European business. At the time of writing, the company is home to over 750 internal development staff, totalling over 1,000 including external staff.
TOSE's first work that SPOnG is aware of is the 1980 title, "Sasuke vs. Commander" (Arcade).
The company has been involved titles released on the 3DS/2DS, Wii U, Wii, DS/DSi, GBA and Arcade. Of these, "Disney: Planes" (DS/DSi) has been a best selling title.
The company's most recent involvement was on the 2013 release "Disney: Planes" (Wii U).
