I disagree with your assessment that this doesn't move TV forward. It doesn't move network TV forward, but it does add additional content geared towards the same people who are most likely gamers. And given Microsoft's desire to have all devices connected, this only adds to someones ability to have their content where they want it.

Add that they seem to be making a huge effort to bring new content through Apps as opposed to a cable company moves us closer to what most would probably want, an Al la Carte content service. And the idea that cellphones are sold based on their ability to make calls is kind of a joke. Samsung took a bite out of Apples market share not with commercials about great call quality. They did it by pushing unique features.

People keep going on and on about what Microsoft talked about as if MS didn't state that before hand. If people weren't interested in the features they could have ignored the conference. You were told what it was about. It is hard to believe that anyone with a Xbox or PS3 doesn't realize that modern consoles are entertainment devices at this point. Both PS3 and 360 play movie disc, DL movies, have music services, stream movies. The PS4 will be no different. The only thing is that MS showed that they had made their machine do all of those things more seamlessly. I would love for someone to list all of the things MS has shown that Sony won't be doing. I bet that is a very small list. So many of these people complaining about the Xbox One I'm sure lauded Sony for pushing Blu-ray. Blu-ray was only needed for a handful of games which made the added expense a problem that Sony has yet to recover from. You have to wonder how much of the complaining is real, how much is fishing for advertising hits and how much is bias.

These constant articles taking shots at Microsoft for making things more convenient got silly a long time ago. Especially considering that surveys and ratings information from the leading collection sources show that over 25% of all time on a console is used for streaming movies on Netflix. Over 30% on the PS3. So let's stop pretending that these features so many are bashing are not the same things that the majority of console purchasers are using. The belief out there may appear to be that Sony is focused on gamers, but the reality is that Sony is a financially struggling company that could see a large portion of it's problems disappear overnight if it was doing things the way Microsoft is. Because while Sony is considering breaking up the company in hopes of raising enough money to save the company, Microsoft is simply adding additional revenue streams instead of focusing on people that obviously aren't as financially supportive as they are verbally supportive.
