It would make me LOL to see this fulfilled. I doubt it would be true, since you'd have to cram around 1 GB of FMV into a DS cart (doubt they'd want to re-use code of a game that was improved upon instead of re-using final code). But if they could, it would certainly be sweet.

Though I would expect to see games such as Final Fantasy III looking very similar to the original FFVII.

I'd expect it to be spanned across several carts. They're not exactly expensive to produce...

Wow, this has to be news of the day, good one Spong.

I'd love to see this FFVII return to Nintendo's camp and the DS is ripe for it. Also judging by the screenshots of FFIII that I've seen on the DS, if feel it could manage FFVII and plus the CG, even if this were to span over two or three DS cards, I'm sure many will invest in it and sales will skyrocket.

Square are discovering more about the DS and what is can do. I'm glad that they haven't given up on DS and are rewarding us for what N64 missed.

Go S.E, great idea.

Considering all the new compression technologies they have these days, the logical scaling down the FMV's to the resolution of the DS-screen, the fact that FF7 on the PSX did not use any kind of compression in any kind of area (they used bloody WAVs for the audio...WAVs!!!) and considering that Square-Enix and Nintendo are getting closer by the minute (Nintendo being the masters of using every bit storage room in the most efficient way possible)...this game could perfectly fit on a DS cartridge.

Remeber the words of Reggie on E3 2004, DS-cartridges have capacities of 128 Mb (byte not bit) and beyond and are based on a new low-cost production type of flash memory it is safe to consider that Nintendo can cram out a 512 Mb cartridge.

Take all this in consideration and datastorage wise FF7 wil in no way be a problem for the DS. Just think, a FF7 without loading times!! gah...

You've got to remember that this game is ten years old. At the time, it was one of the greatest spectacles ever put onto disc. Now... well, it's lost a little of it's charm. FFVIII has stood the test of time much better, in my mind.

You'd be in the minority. FFVII is still seen as THE game of the series by a long, long way.

Both is true! That's the whole point in making a remake!

I was still personally hoping to see a FFVII remake on the PS3, with the graphics of the tech demo! That would be the most amazing thing.

However, the DS is the next best system for it, and if it uses less resources to make a port, I think it would be a great idea!

To be perfectly honest, any kind of remake of a game that amazing is a good thing - what is there to lose?

I think it is a translation error and in fact, it’s heading for the PSP.
God knows the PSP needs a killer app and doesn’t Sony have shares in Square/Enix? This also matches in with the rumours of a PS2 remake and storage size that would be needed for the game. I can’t see the DS been the target machine just because of the media size (bigger carts cut into profits more) unless the game is cut down a lot and that would seriously effect the atmosphere of the game.
Just my guess of course.

TBH I think PSP is a possibility as well. Though I imagine that should SE develop a new RPG for it, a remake seems unlikely - Perhaps Advent Children was a sweetner and the remake will hit DS? All a bit confusing right now and Square Enix (I spoke to them earlier) weren't saying.

I totally agree.

I thought FFVII was pretty poor when it came out; mainly because you spent more time watching videos than actually playing the game. It was also a bit too easy to get stuck on it.

A good RPG should never age. Just look at some of the earlier FFs.

Yes.

It is stunning.

It's without a doubt the best current-generation game on any platform, and the best "traditional" RPG ever created; for me it wipes the ass of all the Final Fantasy games.

Ordered it.

Saw that offer at the weekend, and remembered reading good reviews; but for some reason decided against it.

Cheers for tipping me over :)

Good choice!

One small thing, it takes about 5 hours before the game really reaches it's true brilliantness - it is a tad slow at the beginning (remembering this is a 45 - 50 hour game).

You'll love it. It's just excellent.
