Summary

The original Project CARS set up its stall as a pure racing sim with a deep roster of cars and tracks and an equally deep feature set to match it. With this sequel, developer Slightly Mad Studios has gone all-in with a bid to up the ante on the realism and online competition.

The track has really become one of the stars of the show this time out. Every metre of tarmac, gravel or mud will affect the course of your race, and how you handle that with everything from your driving style to car set-up will impact how you perform. Day and night cycles affect atmospherics, while mapping of fluid dynamics means that weather doesn't bring about generic changes to the road - water will actually pool, gather and run in ways that are true to the track and will impact your race.

There's also a brand new, fan-requested Online Championships game mode that enables players to create and join ongoing racing leagues. Esports functionality is baked in from the start this time out, while director/broadcaster integration and streaming are present and accounted for and a range of motorsports classes such as Rallycross and IndyCar are part of the mix.

Throw in Slightly Mad's boast of the largest ever track roster on console, over 170 licensed cars and support for VR and 12K and you have a very deep experience for motorsports fans to take for a spin.
