Summary

Quake III Gold is a bundle of joy for those who can't get enough of that fragging stuff. Comprising of Quake III Arena and Team Arena, as a solo experience or a multi-player mash-em-up, Quake III takes some beating.

A technological masterpiece of vision, sound, and nerve-jarring fun forged by the masters of gaming at id Software, Quake III Arena transports players to a dark underworld where the greatest warriors of all time lock horns in no holds barred combat. As one of these warriors, you must try to rise through the ranks by defeating your enemies. Win, and you’ll move onto greater battles and glory; lose and you’re a pile of charred flesh.

Played from a first person perspective in a beautifully rendered 3-D environment, gamers will hunt their opponents through darkened gothic cathedrals and ominous organic caverns. Plasmas against rockets, machine guns against rail guns, Quake III Arena offers players one of the most visceral experiences a computer game can offer, and raises the bar for all other games that follow. In both single player and multiplayer action, Quake III Arena is the quintessential game.

Following the most successful in the series, the Team Arena expansion pack is a highly desirable piece of software for many fans of the genre.

While all of the original features are still available, a whole plethora of brand new features can be incorporated into the main game to further increase the variety within Quake III. Ammunition bonuses in particular have been boosted considerably. Players can now take advantage of an increased number of both offensive and defensive weapons, including nail guns and invulnerability spheres.

The number of game types has also been boosted with the addition of a harvester mode. Here, you will participate in a hunting and hiding sabotage mission that takes place on enemy grounds. A second variation of Capture the Flag (CTF) is also a welcome addition. These types of missions help the players to learn and adapt to new strategies within Quake III and the rest of the first-person genre. Characters in the game move more swiftly than ever before, and the vocal impressions they make can be intimidating.

In many players' eyes, Quake III is the best multi-player game available for PC, and the Team Arena expansion pack will reinforce their collective opinion.
