Summary

Legend Of Legaia, said to be one of the most promising RPG titles around, is new for 2000 on PlayStation. As one of the few RPG’s released in Europe, is title should be of some interest for any fan of the genre.

Taking place in the vast world that is Legaia, you take on the initial role of Vahn, a young blue haired guy destined to be of importance. The story goes something like this. Humans and the Seru are two races, which once combined with each other, can enhance each other abilities. One day, the Seru got peeved and attacked all humans, who then had to flea to safe areas all over the planet. It’s up to you to revive all the genesis trees around Legaia and bring peace to the land once more. And that’s it.

Of course it’s the way it’s done that makes an RPG what it is. And in Legend Of Legaia it’s done rather well. You are eased into play, starting off in your hometown, where you get the chance to practice the battle system to perfection. Once you are ready, it’s time to explore. The battle system is controlled very well, and is something like a cross between Final Fantasy and Street Fighter, whereby you can aim your physical attacks to specific areas of the opposition. Magic spells are expressed well, with some spectacular effects that will dazzle you for quite some time.

With a reasonably original battle system, and a large exploratory element, everything you would expect from an RPG is present in Legend Of Legaia.
