Summary

The Bomberman franchise, now almost ten years old, has made many appearances across a variety of platforms in the form of a 2D multi-player extravaganza. But those little bombers are now making tracks into the racing genre, and in full 3D. Yes, this is Bomberman Fantasy Racing for PlayStation.

But this is no ordinary racing game. There are no cars or karts in this racing game. Here, you must ride on the backs of many exotic creatures, including rhinos, kangaroos and more. There are 12 creatures in all, but getting from the beginning to the end of one of the game’s race circuits is more challenging than it sounds. You are a Bomberman after all. Much of the game consists of dirty tactics. You must use your bombs and any of the 15 available power ups to take out your enemies. Reaching that finish line before anyone else is all that matters. But beware, the other racers are equally devious.

The circuits have all been very well designed, and although simplistic, they are bright, colourful and offer plenty of variety for the player.

From a racing point of view, there is little new in Bomberman Fantasy Racing. But from a Bomberman perspective, this title is completely original. If you love Bomberman, but are looking for something a little different from the traditional multi-player antics, Bomberman Fantasy Racing is the game of choice.
