Summary

Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast. Red Dwarf fans will know what I’m talking about. This is the portrayal of Solid Snake, the hero of Metal Gear Solid. Yes, this game feels, well, American.

Developed by Konami, MGS has some of the most original features ever presented in a game. This isn’t a shooting fest. This is tactical espionage action; you have to think your way to the end of this game. Here, the birds eye view camera angles allow you to see what is going on around you. You must use this capability to get to your opposed destination. If someone in guarding the designated area, you will have to get their attention by tapping against the wall, for example. With their post left open, you’re free to go. However, get caught and you have to fight, whether you’re armed or not.

The story for MGS is very strong, so much so that there is a lot of dialogue to listen to, should you want to understand just what is going on. Each character has their own background, personality, and motives, making them as complete as anyone in the movies. This cinematic action game isn’t the biggest of games in terms of longevity, but some people say it’s quality, not quantity. Such is the case for Metal Gear Solid.
